We should not stigmatize the poor by saying they need to be in Medicaid
“Among people who are eligible for means-tested programs like Medicaid, food stamps, or cash assistance, the percent who actually enroll has always been fairly low.”[2]
Medicaid is the worst payor and many providers don’t participate
nursing home disparities are largely geographic and historic because the homes in low income communities have had fewer resources
“states are looking to Medicaid MCOs to develop strategies to identify and address social determinants of health.”
“Children and adults are more likely to be enrolled in MCOs than seniors or persons with disabilities”
“The problem with Medicaid is it is the worst payor (admittedly in a fee for service world) and many providers don’t participate. There needs to be full participation by providers and Medicaid plans must move to per member per month payments. Some states have better Medicaid plans than others. “(Richard)
