Epic founder and CEO Judy Faulkner emphasized the company’s long-term planning approach, aiming for decisions that anticipate the next 25 to 50 years. Speaking at the 45th annual Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wisconsin, she highlighted Epic’s growth from its humble beginnings to a major player in healthcare technology, with 44,000 attendees and expanding global reach.
Faulkner discussed Epic’s advancements in generative AI, including tools like MyChart draft messages and AI charting used across over 180 organizations. She mentioned Epic’s ongoing AI projects, enhanced connectivity between health systems and payers, and the development of AI monitoring tools for patient safety. The company is also exploring new technologies like AI voice bots for healthcare and integrating genomics with EHR data.
Faulkner shared her vision of making Epic’s software more engaging, likening it to games like Wordle. She stressed the importance of future planning, continuous innovation, and creating a conducive work environment. She concluded with advice on forward-thinking decision-making, promoting early childhood brain development, and the importance of using software fully. The theme of the meeting was Storytime, and Faulkner encouraged a reflective practice she uses called GLAD (Grateful, Learned, Accomplished, Delighted).
